My girlfriend and I love where we live. It’s close enough to the city, but also far enough away that we can get a break from the traffic and enjoy the beauty of the area.
We’ve found that we are more active here, and we’re really enjoying nature and some of the things that are free (or already covered in our monthly expenses):
- Ride our bikes
- Go on a hike
- Watch the sunrise
- Play tennis
- Go to a museum (in nearby city)
- Walk the dog
- Go to the library
- Serial watch shows on Netflix (ok not exactly free, but we’re already paying)
- Play a game of HORSE (which I’m lousy at)
- Go on a picnic
- Grill out on the balcony
- Watch the sunset
- Watch the planes take off
- Read a book
- Have a drink on the balcony
- Listen to a podcast
- Read a blog
- Play cards
- Work out
- Go swimming
- Cook a special dinner at home
- Host a potluck
- Meditate
- Call someone special (parent/sibling/kid/friend)
- Attend an outside festival
As easy as it is to get caught up with spending for this or that, it’s a nice reminder that there are so many fun things to do for free. Consider making a game of it this weekend. Substitute something you’d normally spend money on with a free activity. You may find you have even more fun, and you’ll feel great after for saving some money.
